Choosing Your Flowers

Now that you have chosen your celebrant and venue it’s time to focus on choosing your flowers and the details that make it uniquely yours. Last month I focused my tips on creating centrepieces that didn’t feature flowers these ideas can bring out your personality types for sure . However working with an incredible florist can also bring a personal touch to your special day.

We have worked alongside the incredible Vicki from Petals in Bloom a few times now and I have to say I am blown away by her work. Not only does she consider the colour pallet, season and theme of your wedding she will also look at your birth month, your favourite flowers and who you are as a couple. All of these questions bring together a truly personal approach to creating arrangements. As an added bonus Vicki is super environmentally conscious. She does not use florist foam in her arrangements and bouquets will be delivered in plastic free vases.

“A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love.” – Max

Viki suggests a mix of flowers and foliage in different shapes and sizes to provide softness, movement, interest and depth while also adding texture. To help your budget mixing different price point flowers will give you something beautiful without looking cheap or breaking the bank. No matter what your budget is be open with your florist, so together you can discuss the best direction to get the best value. Be clear about what are the most important pieces to your and then grow from there.

No matter what time of year your wedding is planned for you will be able to find a flower which matches your style, however before you set your heart on a particular bloom make sure it is in season and on budget, yes some flowers are more expensive than others. To give you a little inspiration Vicki and I have created this useful list of flowers and their best available seasons. Please keep in mind when thinking about flowers they are reliant on growing weather conditions so the seasonal guides are just that.
