This month is a little personal reflection on wedding moments that make a wedding ceremony so special. Your wedding ceremony is the start of what is sure to be a special memorable day for you as a couple. It’s a moment in time to share your love and the emotion with those closest to you.

Every wedding I attend is so special and there is nothing more special than that moment when groom sees his bride for the first time. Breath held, tears welling and joy all over! Que tears from your wedding coordinator. Honestly, I thought at first, I didn’t like the idea of a first look, till I witnessed it. Something that is normally so public was suddenly so private. You could see the look in their eyes in that moment just before their ceremony there were only two people in the whole world and the world just stopped for just a moment in time.

Other couples have shared this first look moment as the bride starts her walk down the aisle the whole crowd gasps in delight and the groom, oh the groom it’s all about the expression. It’s love, true, forever, unrequited love in his eyes and hers. Leaving them both feeling like they are the only two in the room. See I’m such a sucker for love filled wedding moments, perhaps that’s why I’ll never give up on forever love. Oh my almost crying writing this tonight!

Then come the readings, the perfect way for your special family and friends to share their words of love for you both and pray over your marriage. I have shared just a few of my favourites from a few ceremonies I have had the pleasure of attending.

1 Corinthians 13;1-13.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now, we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

1 John 4:7-12

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is made complete in us.

John 15:9-17

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.’

Can you tell I love John? I love his relationship with Jesus so wonderful. And a few of my favourite nonbiblical readings, feel the love.
